MS SOUTH CAROLINA SENIOR AMERICA 2013,
BEVERLY THIEL

Ms. South Carolina, Beverly Thiel CONGRATULATIONS to BEVERLY THIEL, Ms South Carolina Senior America 2013, and Special Thanks to Connie Karl and Elizabeth Garrison for a wonderful State Queen!

Beverly Thiel was born on September 2nd, 1944, in Baltimore Maryland. At age seven, she studied piano at the Peabody Conservatory. At that time, she further advanced her musical career by way of learning the Clarinet, Saxophone and Organ. She also took tap, toe and ballet lessons as well as roller skating lessons.

She graduated Kenwood High School in 1962. During that year, she represented the state of Maryland in the Miss America Pageant. She received a talent award playing the organ and piano in that competition. Once of the highlights of her life was playing the organ on the Maryland State Float at President John F. Kennedy's inauguration Parade and attending the inaugural ball.

In 1966, Beverly joined American Airlines as a flight attendant. Within eighteen months, she was promoted to the position of Flight Attendant Supervisor. While based at LaGuardia Airport in New York City, she met her future husband, a New York City Police Officer. She was married on August 31, 1968. Her first daughter, Kathleen was born in 1972. At the time, she resigned as a flight attendant to be a full time mother. A second daughter, Kimberly was born in 1975. While she was raising her family, Beverly was teaching private lessons on the piano and organ to children and adults.

In 1989, after a seventeen year break in service, Beverly decided to return to her flying career. Once again she attended the Flight Attendant Academy with American Airlines and after graduation, was based at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City. She flew the international routes until her retirement in 2006.

In 2007, her husband retired and they moved to Sun City Hilton Head in Bluffton, South Carolina. There she is busy enjoying all the amenities that the community has to offer.

Beverly is now an active member of Julie's Mission. This is a National Organization whose members make by hand, clothing, blankets, incubator toppers and crib accessories for premature babies. She also participates in fund raising for this organization.

Since moving to Sun City, Beverly has been active in many dance classes such as tap, jazz, salsa and clogging. She displays her talents in the Sun City Musical Theater which produces many shows during the year such as the Follies and Rainbow of Rhythm.

Beverly has been Vice President of the Sundancer's dance club. In that capacity, she has selected and made various costumes for that organization. She volunteers her time by dancing at various nursing homes, assisted living facilities, Relay for Life for breast cancer events and the Bluffton Festival.

Sun City amenities and activities take up much of her time. Beverly also makes frequent trips back to New York to visit family and friends. It's a busy life, she says, but I wouldn't change a thing.
